Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran was a businesswoman, investor and speaker from the United American. The Corcoran Group, an NYC-based real estate brokerage was started by Corcoran. NRT bought it in 2001 for $66 million. Corcoran later left the company. One of the original "Shark" investors, Corcoran has appeared in every season of ABC's Shark Tank until today. Since February of 2020, she's signed 53 deals with the show, the largest one being $350,000 for 40 percent of Coverplay. Corcoran was born in Edgewater, New Jersey, the second child of 10 in a working class Irish-Catholic family. Her mother, Florence, was a homemaker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He was a mover between jobs and the next during Corcoran's early years. Her family sometimes relied on free delivery of food from a local grocery store. Corcoran recalls her father as one who often was a drinker and was rude to her mother and contempt, particularly when he'd been drinking. Corcoran struggled at school, and eventually discovered that she was dyslexic. She went to the local Catholic elementary school and started the high school system at St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. Corcoran, who had failed numerous classes in her freshman year, moved to Leonia High School. There she received a grade of D.
